MiraLink and Weather-Related Outage Preparation
Hurricane season is underway in the Atlantic and Tropical Storm (briefly Hurricane) Debby provided a timely reminder that weather conditions can have a very tangible impact on both health and safety as well as on our energy infrastructure. As we continue to keep a close eye on customer operations, now would be as good a time as ever to ensure that your backup equipment is prepped and optimized while running alongside the full capability of the tools we offer. There’s no better time to utilize these 24x7 connectivity tools, which are integrated into our back-up power solutions, than when health and safety is on the line.
Generac Energy Services has operational gateways in the field attached to industrial generators, across our expanding client base across North America. These connected communication devices seamlessly integrate with the MiraLink platform, which offers streaming telemetry, monitoring features, robust and configurable alarm notification support, and other logging and reporting functionality.
With MiraLink, intuitive features are always a couple clicks away from your Map View. You’ll be able to quickly assess sites that may be impacted by an outage across a fleet, or even where portable rentals might be in order, potentially days before an event occurs.
The user can quickly jump to Summary Views indicating generator and alarm activity. Tests can be done at Sites of interest ahead of any forecasted storm. For example, ATS devices in such a scenario should be rechecked to ensure they reliably switch from utility to a backup power source in advance of a storm.
The MiraLink application also provides a fleet view of fuel levels. There’s no better time to make the important call to top off fuels than well before warnings or evacuation orders are posted. Preparedness is crucial and MiraLink—given the connectivity and streaming features it offers—should be part of your toolset.
For example, several days before Debby formed into a tropical cyclone, NOAA’s National Hurricane Center was watching an area of interest near Cuba. For our channel partners in the field, knowing this would have been an excellent opportunity to check on fuel levels across a fleet for industrial generators relying on diesel. MiraLink provides a quick view into fuel levels with minimal effort.
Subsequently, NOAA’s National Hurricane Center confirmed this tropical development area with a hazardous conditions outlook as provided in the following capture. If the site managers hadn’t done so already, a call might be in order. Note that supplier and equipment information can be built right into the Survey Data, found in MiraLink’s Journal feature. This would include generator specifications and potentially service provider detail.
Any notes or attachments will display on this page, enabling seamless information sharing across system users.
